What I’m Reading This Week #40

Each week I share books I’m reading for my 2016 Reading Challenge, as well as podcasts I’m listening to and links I love from around the blogosphere.  I love to get recommendations, so please let me know what you are reading!

What I’m Reading

the princess bride

The Princess Bride by William Goldman

I can’t believe that I didn’t realize The Princess Bride was actually a book until recently!  I read it this week and really enjoyed it.  Like the movie, it’s very smart, ridiculously funny, and touching.  If you’re looking for a bit of light reading that will make you laugh, try The Princess Bride.

winter

Winter by Marissa Meyer

This final installment in The Lunar Chronicles was worth waiting for.  I have been on the library wait list for it for months but devoured it within a day!  If you’re unfamiliar with the YA series, it intertwines fantasy, science fiction, and fairy tale into compelling stories.  Start with the first book, Cinder, to get situated in the world.  Recommended for grades 6-adult.

I just finished reading “The Soldier’s Wife” by Margaret Leroy for my book club. It’s not as good as “The Guernsey Potato Peel Club and Literacy Society” but it was interesting to read another perspective on Guernsey during WWII.

How interesting! I had no idea there was another book about Guernsey. I knew nothing about that part of history until I read “Potato Peel Pie,’ but loved learning about it. Thanks for the review!

If you’re a fan of the Princess Bride movie too, you should read “As You Wish”! It’s written by the man who plays Westley in the movie, and has so many inside looks at the filming of the movie and the story and interactions with the author. I loved it!

I just finished Fairest and am [im]patiently waiting for my library hold on Winter! Love this series!

OOh, thanks for the tip on “As You Wish”! That sounds so fun! I hope you enjoy Winter. I thought it was a satisfying end to the series. (Even if I did stay up WAY too late reading it….)

Hello, I just found you through Mom’s Small Victories! I converted to Orthodoxy around 8 tears ago and live near Chicago. This week, I’m reading the biography of Elisabeth Behr-Sigel, the greatest French Orthodox woman theologian of the 20th century, by Olga Lossky! Loving it. I had read Elisabeth’s own biography of Lev Gillet, you know, “the Monk of the Eastern Church”, so it’s all the same company.
My book blog is http://wordsandpeace.com, I review Orthodox books from time to time.
I also have an Orthodox shelf on Goodreads: https://www.goodreads.com/review/list/5215426-emma?shelf=orthodox
Blessed beginning of the Triodon and entry into Great Lent!

Hello, Emma! It’s so nice to meet you! I will have to add those biographies to my TBR list. We also became Orthodox about 8 years ago (one week before our wedding!). I’m off to check out your blog. 🙂

Welcome!
