Weekly Goals June 29

Can I confess something to you?  I have had “work on my book” as one of my weekly goals for the past three weeks or so.  And, do you know how much I have actually done?  Zero.  Nothing.  Not a word.

This weekend I tried to figure out why that was.  And I realized something:  I haven’t started because I am scared.

That’s it.   Plain and simple.  I am terrified.

I am scared that I will fail completely.  I am scared that no one will want to publish it.  I am scared that no one will want to read it.  I am scared that I will do my absolute best and it will be lacking.

I have had a “someday” attitude about my writing for so long, that I’ve been using it to ward off these feelings of insecurity.  As long as I was saying, “Someday I’ll write,” I didn’t have to wonder if I actually could write.

But now I want to try.  And it’s absolutely frightening.

So, I decided that I will scale my goal back a bit this week.  I will try some baby steps in the hopes that I can get over this fear, or at least learn to cope with it.  My goal this week will be to write for 30 minutes, focusing solely on my book.  I will not find blog work to do,  summer school lessons to plan, or an e-mail to read.  I will just work on my book, but only for 30 minutes.  It’s a start.

What about you?  Do you have something that you’ve been wanting to do but haven’t started yet?  Do you want to train for a marathon?  start your own business?  deepen a relationship?  start a blog?  What small (perhaps even tiny!) step can you take this week toward reaching that goal?

Here were my goals last week:

Spiritual:

1. Pray the Morning Prayers together 4 mornings

2. Read 8 chapters of I Corinthians

Professional:

3. Get to know my summer school students

Family/ Homemaking:

4. Play a board game as a family

5. Work with Sister on the alphabet

6. Do home school work with Big Brother four days (He goes to a public school, but the teacher in me wants to keep his mind active over the summer!  So, we are doing some math and writing together, in addition to the books that he is reading.)

7. Try 2 new recipes

Personal:

8. Read 2 books (You can read more about that here.)

9. Work on my book 2 nights

10. Start the 30 day abs challenge

This week’s goals:

Spiritual:

1. Pray the Morning Prayers together 4 times

2. Finish reading I Corinthians

Professional:

3.  Post one new Teachers Pay Teachers product to my store

Family/ Homemaking:

4. Have a movie night with my husband

5. Read to my kids 5 nights

6. Try 2 new recipes

7. Go to a splash park/ swimming pool with the kids

8. Mend two of my husband’s shirts that have tears in them

Personal:

9. Read 2 books

10. Work for 30 minutes on my book

What are your goals for the week?
